Let’s make it
Heat the oven to 190°C / 375°F. Put apples in a 20 cm baking dish with lemon juice, 20 g of the sugar, and cinnamon. Toss to coat.
In a bowl, mix flour, oats, remaining 40 g of sugar, and salt. Rub in butter with fingertips until the mixture forms uneven crumbs.
Scatter the topping over the apples without pressing it down.
Bake for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden, the filling bubbles, and a knife slides easily through the apples. Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
What you’ll need

A little kitchen wisdom
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples if available.
- The 10-minute rest is additional to the listed active prep and cooking times.
- For a dairy-free version, use suitable baking margarine; as written this contains butter.
Saving some for later
Refrigerate in a shallow, covered container within 2 hours (within 1 hour above 32°C / 90°F). Keep at 4°C / 40°F or below and use within 3 days. Reheat cooked leftovers to 74°C / 165°F, adding a splash of water if needed. Reheat covered in an oven or microwave; uncover briefly to crisp the topping.
